Horse and Mule Camp & Guided Trail Rides
Map an Directions
RIDING

Fort Valley Stable's Horse and Mule Camp
is surrounded by the George Washington National Forest which has over 80 miles of trails that are accessible from camp and many more miles that are just a short haul down the road. Bring your own horse or mule and explore the Massanutten Mountains for a weekend or an extended vacation or enjoy a guided trail ride on one of our gentle saddle horses. We are
sure to have a horse to compliment your experience level.

The terrain ranges from easy trails through dark hollows and along mountain streams, (these easy trails are more than suitable for the beginning rider); to rough, rocky and rugged trails that bring the
experienced rider to some of the highest ridges in the Massanutten Mountain Range and reward them with magnificent views.

CAMPING

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR YOU

Park your rig in one of our shaded sites with your animals corraled just a few steps away. We have primitive sites with no hook-ups for those rigs that are
self-contained, and sites with water and electric hook-ups if needed. Hot showers and a vault restroom are available.

We have three bunk house cabins that  will sleep
four to eight. These cabins have a bathroom with
a stall shower and a kitchen with most that is
needed to prepare your meals. They are heated, air conditioned and have satellite TV.

We do not provide towels or linens so bring
them with you.

All of our campsites and cabins are equipped
with a picnic table and a fire ring. Groups and trail riding clubs are welcome to use our new 24' X 48' picnic pavilion.

WiFi "g" is available in the cabins and through most of the campground.

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR YOUR ANIMALS

  • You can picket or use your own portable corral in designated areas. You can rent one or more of our shaded 12' X 16' pipe corrals or one of three pasture paddocks (slightly less than ¼ acre).

  • If you prefer your animal under a roof at night, there are four covered corral pens just a short distance from your campsite but bring your own bedding and be prepared to clean your own pens.

  • We have an overflow area for large groups that will hold about 50 trailer rigs with room to picket or set up your own portable corral at your site.
  • This area is open with just a few trees.
  • You will find firewood and ice for sale in our new camp store as well as ice cream, soft drinks, snacks plus Fort Valley Stable t-shirts and a few tack items that you may have left behind or lost out on the trails.
  • We have three catch-and-release ponds that are teeming with large mouthed bass and will give the angler or fly fisherman hours of enjoyment when not exploring the trails.

Could you use the expertise of a gaited horse trainer?                      Lindsey Payette of Freedom Gaits LLC will be at Fort Valley Stable
